10 Gifts for Travellers

It’s hard isn’t it – trying to find a gift for someone that mainly carries everything in a bag on their back. Those novelty slippers probably won’t make it on their packing list and those earrings are far too precious to risk losing abroad. So what options are left? Well, here’s a few suggestions from the BackHackers team for gifts to get your much loved traveller buddy…

1. Travel Document Holder

You can splash out and even get personalised versions of these bad boys! This is a great gift to make sure your travel buddy stays organised and (hopefully) doesn’t end up losing any precious tickets along the way.

2. Travel Journal

At some point, every traveller (no matter how advanced their technology is) will need a little notepad. To scribble down ideas, to write down important travel day information or just to play noughts and crosses on a long airport stopover. Plus you can write cheeky notes on random pages to surprise them when they’re half way across the world.

3. Cases (in general)

Travellers LOVE cases. Phone cases, glasses cases, gadget organisers…pretty much anything to keep their belongings intact (and their luggage neat). There are plenty of waterproof, shockproof, life proof cases out there to choose from and each layer of protection is sure to be greatly appreciated by your travel bud!

4. Shampoo Bars

These space saving, planet helping shampoo bars are great purchases for any traveller! Small in size, they won’t take up much space in bags and as they aren’t classed as liquid, you’ll be able to store them in hand luggage without infringing on any restrictions! They are also long lasting (some spanning 80-100 washes) and help our environment as they are produced without a plastic vessel.

5. Collapsible Water Bottle

Again, another great space saver! Packing one of these can be a true life saver and any traveller would be glad to receive one as a gift. There are plenty on the market, so make sure to keep your favourite traveller hydrated while they’re away!

6. Travel Towel

Although many travellers don’t consider a towel a necessity, it’s quite often that one won’t be provided where they end up staying. Taking one of these means you’re never caught out and, as they don’t take up much space, why wouldn’t you?! They are also great at doubling up as blankets, beach throws and are sometimes thin enough to be used as sarongs.

7. Moka Pot (optional espresso mugs and filter coffee)

This is for the coffee lovers out there. Moka pots come in all shapes and sizes – some even with two spouts. Make your travel buddy super happy by also purchasing espresso mugs and filter coffee to make sure they get their wake up drink wherever they are.
This is a super functional purchase as moka pots can be used anywhere you can make fire – BBQ’s, induction hobs, gas hobs, you name it, they can make coffee on it!

8. Dry Bag

Whether your travel buddy is planning on swimming from island to island, or they’re simply caught up in the rainy season, at some point they will risk getting absolutely and totally drenched to the bone.
It’s all fun and games splashing about in the hot tropical rain until you realise most of your devices are now completely waterlogged and are probably gone for good. Make sure they don’t run this risk and buy them a dry bag! Super handy and can really save a lot of grief.

9. Solar Portable Charger

If your bud is headed somewhere sunny, why not get them a solar portable charger? They can leave it out in the sun to power up, even attaching it to their bag as they explore, and then charge up their devices when in need! Really handy if they visit somewhere more remote where a power supply might not always be available.

10. World Adapter

If travelling through multiple continents, this is a must! A great space saving item that means you don’t need to purchase different adapters for different zones – an all in one electrical dream! Get this for your travel bud to make sure they can use all their devices and appliances at will!
Bought anything for your favourite travel buddy lately? If it’s not on this list, let us know! Hopefully we’ve given you some interesting ideas that can be made more personal to ensure your travel bud feels connected to you no matter how far around the world they are.
